What a day!

Luke complained for the second time yesterday that his tooth hurt so I scheduled a dental appt for right after school.  Took him in and after many attempts they managed to get a clear enough x-ray to show a huge cavity (pretty close to the nerve) in between his back two teeth on the upper right side.  Too much fruit leather, fruit twists and other sticky stuff.  I know better darn it.  The dentist was good (for the most part) in talking to Luke about what was going on and taking his time so as not to overwhelm Luke.  He let me stay in the room on the chair to help keep him calm (which is why we go to a family dentist instead of a pediatric dentist).  Needless to say Luke screamed and cried at times.  He was sooo nervous and my level of anxiety didn't help I'm sure.  The dentist assured me it couldn't hurt after 3 shots.  It was likely just a such different sensations with the drill and the metal band to hold the filling in place.  They weren't sure the tooth could be saved but things look good so far.  He's been able to eat on the right side and hasn't had pain.  Yay!
